Kotegaeshi techniques involve the application of an outward wrist turn and downward cutting action to unbalance and ultimately throw the uke. Kotegaeshi techniques are a common feature in the syllabus of most Aikido schools.
In the below videos Morihiro Saito Sensei (9th Dan) provides instruction on the basic and advanced versions of kotegeashi from an attack in the form of a straight blow to the centre of the head (Shomenuchi kotegaeshi).
- Shomenuchi kotegaeshi – Basic version (nage initiates)
- Shomenuchi kotegaeshi – Advanced version (uke attacks first)
